Spot-on antiparasitic for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations (C. canis, C. felis) and for the treatment of lice (Trichodectes canis) in dogs

• Pharmaceutical product
• Target species: dog
• For the treatment and prevention of flea infestations (C. canis, C. felis) and for the treatment of lice (Trichodectes canis) in dogs.
• Spot-on for dogs weighing over 10 kg up to 25 kg.
• Fleas on dogs are killed within a day of treatment.
• One treatment prevents further flea infestation for four weeks.
• The product can be used as part of a treatment strategy for flea allergy dermatitis (FAD).
• The product has persistent acaricidal and repellent efficacy against dry infestations (Riphicephalus sanguineus and Ixodes ricinus for four weeks, and Dermacentor reticulatus for three weeks).
• Ticks already present on the dog may not be killed within two days after treatment and may remain attached and visible. Therefore, it is recommended to remove ticks already present on the dog at the time of treatment to prevent them from attaching and feeding on blood.
• One treatment provides repellent activity (anti-feeding) against:
• sandflies (P. papatasi for two weeks and P. perniciosus for three weeks)
• mosquitoes (A. aegypti for two weeks and C. pipiens for four weeks)
• horseflies (S. calcitrans) for four weeks.

Sandflies:

P. perniciosus, 3 weeks

P. papatasi, 2 weeks

Mosquitoes:
A. aegypti, 2 weeks
C. pipiens, 4 weeks

Horsefly:
S. calcitrans, 4 weeks

Additional indications:

• Advantix Spot-on is an ectoparasiticide for topical use containing imidacloprid and permethrin. This combination acts as an insecticide, acaricide, and repellent. Imidacloprid is effective against adult fleas and the larval stages of fleas. In addition to the adulticidal efficacy against fleas of imidacloprid, larvicidal efficacy has been demonstrated in the environment surrounding the treated pet. Larval stages present in the environment surrounding the dog are killed after contact with a treated animal.
• This product provides repellent activity (anti-feeding) against ticks, sandflies, and mosquitoes, thereby preventing repulsed parasites from taking a blood meal and thus reducing the risk of transmission of vector-borne diseases (CVBD) in dogs (diseases such as borreliosis, rickettsiosis, ehrlichiosis, leishmaniasis). However, it is possible that individual ticks may attach or that individual sandflies or mosquitoes may bite. For this reason, if conditions are unfavorable, the transmission of infectious diseases by these parasites cannot be completely excluded.

• The product can be used during pregnancy and lactation.

Contraindications:
In the absence of available data, the product should not be used in puppies under 7 weeks of age or under 1.5 kg in weight.
Depending on the dog’s body weight, the corresponding Advantix® product must be used.
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or any of the excipients.
Do not use on cats!

Adverse reactions:
On very rare occasions, dogs may exhibit transient skin sensitivity (increased local itching, scratching and rubbing, hair loss, and redness at the application site) or lethargy that generally resolves spontaneously.
In very rare cases, dogs may show behavioral changes (agitation, restlessness, whining or rolling movements) gastrointestinal symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea, hypersalivation, decreased appetite) and neurological signs such as unsteady movement and contractions in dogs sensitive to permethrin. These symptoms are generally transient and resolve spontaneously.
In dogs, poisoning following accidental oral ingestion is unlikely, although this may occur in very rare cases. In this event, neurological signs such as tremors and lethargy may occur.
Treatment should be symptomatic. No specific antidotes are known.
