SCALIBOR PROTECTORBAND 48 CM ANTIPARASITIC COLLAR FOR DOGS

Indications

Dog ectoparasites sensitive to deltamethrin: prevention of tick infestations for 6 months; prevention of flea infestations for 4 months; prevention of sandfly bites for 5 months; repellent effect on adult mosquitoes (Culex pipiens pipiens) for 6 months. The repellent effect (anti-feeding) against sandflies also reduces the risk of visceral leishmaniasis transmission in the dog. The product can therefore be considered part of a Leishmania infantum infection prevention program. The treatment provides a repellent effect against sandflies (Phlebotomus perniciosus) for 12 months. For complete protection against ticks, fleas, sandflies, and mosquitoes, it is recommended to replace the collar after 4 months from first application, keeping the collar constantly worn from April to October. Since the product does not have a traditional repellent action against ticks, it is possible to observe the presence of ticks even after applying the collar. Parasites die once exposed to the active ingredient on the dog. Ingesting toxic quantities causes excitement followed by paralysis and death. Consequently, it is unlikely that ticks can complete a blood meal.

Contraindications/side Effects

Do not use in dogs with known hypersensitivity to the active ingredient. Do not use in puppies younger than 7 weeks. Do not use in cats. Do not use the collar on animals with extensive skin lesions.

Dosage

Use 1 collar per subject; adjust the collar around the animal’s neck without tightening it. Cut excess part, leaving 5 cm from the buckle. The collar should preferably be applied 1 week before animals are introduced into a infested environment, as full activity is reached after 1 week. It is recommended to treat all dogs present in the same environment. Bathing does not affect the collar's efficacy. The collar can be used in puppies over 7 weeks old.

Undesirable Effects

In rare cases (more than 1 but less than 10 animals out of 10,000 animals), local skin reactions (itching, erythema, hair loss) have been reported affecting the neck or skin in general, which may indicate a general or local hypersensitivity reaction. In very rare cases (less than 1 animal out of 10,000 animals, including isolated reports), behavioral changes (e.g., lethargy or hyper-reactivity) often associated with skin irritation have been reported. In very rare occasions, gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and hypersalivation have been observed. Neurological problems such as ataxia and muscle tremors have been rarely reported. Symptoms usually subside within 48 hours after removing the collar. If any of these symptoms are observed, remove the collar. Treatment is symptomatic as no specific antidotes are known.

Active Ingredients

A 48 cm white collar contains: deltamethrin 0.760 g.

Excipients

Diisooctyl adipate, soybean seed oil epoxidized, a mixture of organic Ca-Zn soaps, polyvinyl chloride, titanium dioxide (E 171), triphenyl phosphate.

Safety in Target Species

In case of accidental ingestion of the collar by the dog, the following symptoms may be observed: uncoordinated movements, tremors, hypersalivation. These symptoms are reversible within 48 hours. Treatment can only be symptomatic, as no specific antidotes are known.

Precautions

In case of marked local irritation or allergic reaction, immediately remove the collar. Special precautions for those administering the product to animals: wash hands with cold water and soap after applying the collar. Do not allow children to play with or put the collar in their mouth. Avoid contact with eyes or mouth. If the collar contacts the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water. People with known sensitivity to deltamethrin or other collar components should avoid contact with the product. If eye or skin irritation persists, or if the product is accidentally ingested, consult a doctor immediately and show the leaflet. Dogs treated should not sleep in contact with people, especially children. Other precautions: Although incidental contact with water does not reduce the collar's efficacy, it should be removed before bathing or swimming in water, as the active ingredient is harmful to fish and aquatic organisms. Dogs should not enter water for the first 5 days after application of the collar.

Pregnancy and Lactation

No adverse reactions have been observed in pregnant bitches during the entire pregnancy and lactation period when the collar was applied. No symptoms were observed in puppies born from such bitches until weaning.
