BIOACTIVE MAGNESIUM 90CPS

BioActive Magnesium is a complex of three different magnesium salts. Each tablet provides 200 mg of pure magnesium. The tablet contains a combination of organically and inorganically bound magnesium in a matrix that causes the tablet to dissolve completely in the stomach in less than two minutes – even in people with low gastric juices – where the magnesium content will be transformed into an absorbable ionic form, thus providing high absorption. BioActive Magnesium tablets are normally swallowed whole but can also be chewed or dissolved in a glass of water. It is not necessary to take BioActive Magnesium on a full stomach.

Magnesium Test

As a consumer, you can test yourself whether the magnesium tablet actually dissolves effectively. We placed two magnesium tablets in two glasses of water. In the first glass, Pharma Nord’s BioActive Magnesium tablet dissolved completely within a few minutes, ready for absorption. In the second glass, we put a competitor’s magnesium tablet. After even 24 hours in the water, the competitor’s tablet still showed no signs of dissolving.

Documented Bioavailability

A double-blind, placebo-controlled study in 2008 showed that participants who took BioActive Magnesium daily for eight weeks had serum magnesium levels six times higher than those in the control group who did not receive the magnesium supplement.

Magnesium is an essential mineral and a vital alkalizing element. It is also the fourth most abundant mineral in the human body, which speaks to its importance. Magnesium is present in all cells, with 98% of the mineral inside the actual cell. An adult contains approximately 24 grams of magnesium, of which about 25% is in muscle tissue and about 60% in bones along with other minerals like calcium and phosphorus.

Good Sources of Magnesium

Magnesium is found in various foods. Some good sources include:

Magnesium is also found in water, but the content can vary greatly and only covers a limited part of our needs. Bottled water, in particular, can contain only very small amounts of magnesium.

Magnesium Deficiency

If the diet is very poor in proteins (less than 30 g per day), magnesium absorption by the body is reduced. When the body is in a situation where magnesium levels are too low, it tends to maintain a normal magnesium concentration in the blood by releasing magnesium bound to bone tissue (just like calcium). Due to this complex mechanism, measuring magnesium levels in the blood does not necessarily provide a useful system for determining if a person needs to increase their magnesium intake.
Poor dietary patterns deplete the body's magnesium, and excessive alcohol intake, inadequate physical activity, and stress can also drain magnesium stores.

Overdose

If the body takes in more magnesium than needed, the kidneys excrete it via urine to reduce overdose risk. When the body's magnesium needs are met, additional magnesium intake only results in diarrhea, to protect against overdose. Taking extremely high doses of magnesium (10 times the normal dose or more) can cause diarrhea, vomiting, or other disturbances.

Supplementation with magnesium is not recommended for people with kidney failure unless prescribed by a doctor.
