Fumaria officinalis:

In phytotherapy, Fumaria is especially valued for its purifying properties: it facilitates the elimination of waste, stimulates gastric functions and activates digestion. The plant contains tannins, sugars and alkaloids, of which the most important is fumarine. This plant is known for its ability to alleviate liver disorders and stimulate bile secretion when it is insufficient; it is effective in cases of hepatic migraine, has a slightly laxative and diuretic action, and is also indicated in skin disorders for its excellent purifying action.

Arctium lappa:

According to a well-known mechanism, burdock, commonly known as “itch grass,” acts on certain skin diseases. This action is certainly attributable to the presence of antibiotic substances in the root (caffeic acid) that concentrate in the epithelia. Burdock is diuretic and diaphoretic and can, according to some authors, normalize blood glucose levels in hyperglycemia. Its undeniable purifying capacity and medicinal effect make burdock irreplaceable in dermatological phytotherapy.

Hieracium pilosella:

The plant is used to treat water retention and overweight, exhibiting a marked diuretic activity. This activity is associated with an antiuric and antiseptic action, promoting the reparative processes of the bladder mucosa. The plant is also indicated in the treatment of recurrent cystitis thanks to umbelliferone, which has antibiotic activity. It also exerts a choleretic and cholagogue action that supports and enhances the liver's detoxifying activity.

Taraxacum officinalis:

Studies on the phyto-complex have revealed the presence of numerous components responsible for the antispasmodic, diuretic, vitamin P-like action, especially among flavonoid compounds (which are also the colored pigments responsible for the color of flowers). In addition to these, Dandelion contains bitter principles, which represent the predominant part of the phyto-complex: for this reason, Dandelion has a predominant action on digestive and hepatic functions. The bitter principles, known in less recent literature by the generic name Taraxacina, include eudesmanolides, β-D-glucopyranosides of taraxinic acid and 11,13-dihydrotaraxinic acid, and taraxacoside, a derivative of p-hydroxphenylacetic acid. The roots also contain a lot of inulin, a substance that has mild laxative properties as well as promotes the growth of bifidobacteria in the intestinal flora. The phyto-complex also includes some enzymatic action substances that stimulate the activity of the major glands, especially the liver and kidneys, and are considered capable of stimulating overall cellular metabolism. Dandelion has a powerful diuretic activity, exceeding that of most other hepatic drugs. It indeed stimulates renal secretion, promoting the removal of toxins through urine. The unusually high potassium content that is not reabsorbed in the tubules also contributes to the diuretic action. Flavonoids and eudesmanolides also interact in increasing diuresis. Therefore, dandelion root is considered one of the herbs with the highest detoxifying and draining power: it stimulates the liver and gallbladder to remove waste products, and the kidneys to expel toxins.

Aesculus hippocastanum:

Preparations based on horse chestnut and escin have been used for decades in the therapy of vascular disorders with excellent results that confirm their anti-inflammatory, anti-edema, and vitamin P-like activity. Horse chestnut improves blood circulation and promotes venous return. Escin, in addition to improving venous tone, has a marked anti-inflammatory activity, acting in the early phase of inflammation, opposing the formation of edema and normalizing the permeability of the vascular wall. Esculoside (cumaric glucoside), another component of the phyto-complex and a powerful inhibitor of lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase, also has anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities.
