COMPOSITION
The daily dose of 1.5 ml equal to 30 drops, in hydroalcoholic solution, contains:
Gymnema sylvestre (gymnema) - leaves 375 mg
Hypericum perforatum (St. John's Wort) - aerial parts 375 mg
Poterium spinosum (poterium) - root bark 375 mg
Solidago virgaurea (goldenrod) - aerial parts 375 mg

PROPERTIES OF THE COMPONENTS
Gymnema sylvestre:
Components with hypoglycemic action: gymnemic acids present in the leaves as potassium salt
(gymnemin), it is actually a mixture of at least nine glycosidic acids with very similar structure, whose most active component is gymnemic acid A1.
The active ingredient of gymnema exerts its hypoglycemic action through two main mechanisms:

1. inhibition of sugar absorption at the intestinal level;

2. increased metabolic transformation of glucose at the cellular level.

1. Studies conducted in Japan by Dr. Hatai and in the USA by Dr. Faull have shown that gymnemic acid has a molecule similar to that of sugar, but larger, which binds to the intestinal receptors responsible for the absorption of sucrose, reversibly blocking them. This blockade sets in quickly and lasts for many hours, especially if doses are repeated throughout the day, preventing 50% absorption of sugar. The same binding occurs at the level of taste buds; in fact, placing a small amount of gymnema on the tongue, within moments, the perception of sweetness and bitterness is nullified (while leaving the perception of salty, sour, and metallic tastes unaltered).

2. The intake of gymnema normalizes the levels of glycosylated proteins, hyaluronic acid, hexosamines, sialic acid, their intermediate and collateral products, significantly increased in case of hyperglycemia (dietary or diabetic). In fact, in the absence of insulin, which promotes the breakdown of glucose through glycolysis with energy production, excess glucose is transformed through insulin-independent metabolic pathways leading to the formation of glycosylated proteins, glycosaminoglycans, and some of their intermediates. Glycosylated products accumulate in tissues forming over time cross-linked proteins called advanced glycation end products. It seems that such non-enzymatic glycosylation is directly responsible for the expansion of the vascular matrix and consequently of most of the harmful effects of diabetes and of a sugar-based overeating: cardiovascular complications, atherosclerosis, opacification of the cornea and lens. The circulating glycosylated proteins irreversibly accumulate in the basement membranes of retinal and glomerular arterioles causing retinopathies and impairment of renal function up to renal failure.

Hypericum perforatum:
Decades of studies and clinical trials have definitively ascertained the effectiveness of St. John's Wort extracts in moderately severe depressive states. Recently, a meta-analysis of clinical studies was published in the British Medical Journal. From this research, St. John's Wort (in the form of standardized dry extract) was found to be as effective as imipramine, amitriptyline, maprotiline, desipramine, etc., without having their side effects.
Among the various mechanisms of action invoked to explain the antidepressant effect of St. John's Wort extract, the ability to stimulate endogenous nocturnal secretion of melatonin through a more pronounced reaction to the light-dark alternation has also been highlighted.

Solidago virgaurea:
Active components of Goldenrod: essential oil, tannin, citric, tartaric, and oxalic acid, inulin, bitter principle.
The diuretic property is indirectly confirmed by the presence of saponins and polyphenols in the plant that have this general activity.
Goldenrod is mainly used to eliminate kidney and bladder stones and most inflammatory conditions of the urogenital system. It also has aperitive and astringent properties that are also exploited on the intestinal apparatus in cases of enteritis, enterocolitis, and diarrhea.
Moreover, it is used to stimulate digestion, normalize intestinal functions, stimulate the urinary excretory system, and promote the expulsion of stones.

Poterium spinosum:
Hypoglycemic type ILA: Insulin-like activity. The active ingredient of Poterium stimulates hormonal function in the Langerhans islands. It is believed that the plant, like oral antidiabetic drugs (sulfonylureas), regulates the internal generation of insulin by the Langerhans islets of the pancreas. An important work by J. Shani, B. Joseph, and F. G. Sulman has highlighted that Poterium spinosum plays a decisive role in the treatment of type II diabetes mellitus and in glycemic control, certainly effective and devoid of side effects.
The absence of toxicity makes the plant particularly suitable for prescription over extended periods in patients who require and can benefit from increased stimulation of the endocrine component of the pancreas.
Its intake is undoubtedly useful in all cases of florid insulin-independent diabetes and becomes preferable when the administration of oral antidiabetics is unsuitable due to the presence of vascular and microangiopathic complications.

CONTRAINDICATIONS AND SIDE EFFECTS
Pharmacological studies do not report significant toxicity and side effects at the recommended doses.
