Optium Β-Ketone
Reactive strips designed for measuring beta-hydroxybutyrate in fresh whole capillary blood from the fingertip. The reactive strips are for external use (in vitro diagnostic use) and are self-test or for professional healthcare use. Healthcare professionals can also use venous blood samples, provided that the samples are used within 30 minutes of collection. These systems are not intended for diagnosing diabetes mellitus but should be used as an aid in monitoring the effectiveness of diabetes control programs.
The package does not contain:

Composition
Beta-hydroxybutyrate Dehydrogenase (Pseudomonas sp), NAD (free acid module), Phenanthroline quinone, non-reactive ingredients.
Usage
Before obtaining a blood drop, ensure that your fingertips are clean, dry, and warm. To warm them, wash your hands in lukewarm water. Rest your arm downward before pricking the fingertip to promote blood flow. Avoid pressing excessively on the fingertips. Immediately apply the blood drop onto the reactive strip.
1) Remove the reactive strip from the violet foil pack. Open the strip pack by tearing the notch.
2) Insert the contact bars at the end of the reactive strip into the meter's test port. Gently push the reactive strip until it stops. The meter will automatically turn on (If you are using Optium or Optium Xceed Meter, check that "LOT 75001" or "CODE 75001" appears on the display. If not, contact customer service).
3) Obtain a blood drop. Follow the instructions provided in the lancet device packaging.
4) Place the blood drop on the white target area at the end of the reactive strip. The blood will be absorbed into the reactive strip.
The device displays the blood Beta-Ketone result in 10 seconds. If the countdown does not start, it may be because not enough blood has been applied to the reactive strip. Apply a second blood drop within 30 seconds of the first application. If the countdown still does not start, or if more than 30 seconds have passed, discard the reactive strip, turn off the device, and repeat the steps.
Normally, blood beta-hydroxybutyrate levels should be below 0.6 mmol/liter. Beta-hydroxybutyrate levels can increase if a person is fasting, exercising vigorously, has diabetes, or is ill. If the blood beta-Ketone result is 0.0 mmol/liter and blood glucose is 16.7 mmol/liter or higher, repeat both the ketone and glucose tests with new reactive strips. If the same message appears again or the result does not match how you feel, consult your doctor.
Precautions
The reactive strip has not been evaluated for testing at alternative sites.
The reactive strip is not designed for use with arterial, neonatal, serum, or plasma samples.
The hematocrit range is 30%-60%.
Test results may be falsely low if the patient is severely dehydrated, hypotensive, in shock, or in a hyperglycemic-hyperosmolar state.
The following substances have no significant effect on blood beta-Ketone results:
-Captopril up to 23 μmol/liter (500 mcg/dl)
-L-DOPA up to 30 μmol/liter (600 mcg/dl)
-Dopamine up to 5.9 μmol/liter (90 mcg/dl)
-Gentisic acid up to 117 μmol/liter (1.8 mg/dl)
-Paracetamol up to 1.7 mmol/liter (25 mg/dl)
-Uric acid up to 1.4 mmol/liter (24 mg/dl)
-Ascorbic acid up to 227 μmol/liter (4 mg/dl)
-Unconjugated bilirubin up to 342 μmol/liter (20 mg/dl)
-Cholesterol up to 12.9 mmol/liter (500 mg/dl)
-Triglycerides up to 21.2 mmol/liter (1,875 mg/dl).
