SYNVISC ONE SIR INTRA-ART 6ML

SynviscOne Hylan G-F 20 is a syringe containing Hylan G-F 20, a sterile and apyrogenic viscoelastic liquid. The hylans are derived from hyaluronate (sodium salt of hyaluronic acid), one of the components of synovial fluid, and determines the characteristics of viscoelasticity. 

Hylan G-F 20 temporarily restores the viscoelasticity of synovial fluid, providing clinical benefits to patients at all stages of joint osteoarthritis.

What is SynviscOne Used For?

• Osteoarthritis of the joints.
• Poor posture.

How and When is SynviscOne Used?

For the treatment of knee osteoarthritis: administer in the knee, 3 injections of 2 ml spaced one week apart.
For the treatment of hip, ankle, and shoulder osteoarthritis: administer 1 injection of 2 ml; repeat only if no benefits are obtained.

Side Effects

Following intra-articular injections of Hylan G-F 20, transient pain and/or swelling and/or effusion in the joint may occur.
Following intra-articular injections of Synvisc-One, cases of acute inflammation characterized by joint pain, swelling, effusion, and sometimes warmth and/or stiffness of the joint have been reported.
Hypersensitivity reactions have also been reported, including anaphylactic reaction, anaphylactoid reaction, anaphylactic shock, and angioedema.

Contraindications

Hylan G-F 20 must not be injected into the joint in the presence of venous or lymphatic stasis in the affected limb.
Hylan G-F 20 must not be used in the presence of infections or severe inflammations or skin conditions or skin infections at the injection site.
Do not inject via endovascular route.
Do not inject via extra-articular route or into tissues or the synovial capsule. In general, complications at the injection site have been attributed to extra-articular spread of Synvisc.
Do not use in conjunction with disinfectants containing quaternary ammonium salts for skin preparation, as in their presence hyaluronate may precipitate.
Hylan G-F 20 must not be used if a significant intra-articular effusion has occurred before the injection.
Hylan G-F 20 has not been tested in pregnant women or in children/adolescents under 18 years of age.
Hylan G-F 20 contains small amounts of avian-derived protein and must not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to this protein.

Hylan 8.0 mg, sodium chloride 8.5 mg, disodium phosphate 0.16 mg, sodium dihydrogen phosphate hydrate 0.04 mg, water for injectable preparations q.s.

How is SynviscOne Stored?

Store at a temperature between +2° C and +30° C. Do not freeze.
Synvisc-One is provided in a pre-filled 10 ml glass syringe with 6 ml of Hylan G-F 20.

Useful Tips and Curiosities About SynviscOne

As with all invasive procedures related to joints, it is recommended that the patient avoids any excessive motor activity after the intra-articular injection, and that normal activity is resumed within a few days.

Osteoarthritis is a chronic disease, and for this reason, it has a slowly progressive and debilitating course. Bone lesions are irreversible, but the pain may be intermittent, with phases of exacerbation and phases of well-being, and often decreases as the disease progresses, giving way to deformities, which are permanent. Effective treatment of osteoarthritis involves correcting the underlying causes: weight loss in the obese, scoliosis, and hip dislocation, modification of potentially harmful work activities. Targeted exercise can correct poor positions, strengthen supportive musculature, recover joint mobility, or facilitate the acceptance of partial disability. The application of heat (diathermy, ultrasound, heat pads, paraffin baths, exercises in heated pools) can temporarily relieve pain and reduce muscle spasm.
